Interesting young martyr of the early fourth century who is still celebrated today
There are different accounts of her story; however, Lucy’s eyes were gouged out prior to her execution. She was 21 years old and fearless in her love for God. In the darker days of winter, such as now, let us see her as a reminder of the light and love that God offers to us.
Many celebrate St. Lucy. For instance, in Scandinavia, girls dress as St. Lucy, carrying a wreath of candles on their head, symbolizing the “Light of Christ.”
St. Lucy is the patron saint of the blind and of eye disorders.
St. Lucy, pray for us!
