Jesse Tree Day 14 || Elijah trusted in God completely, as did Jesus. Jesus’ life on earth shows us how to trust in God, the source of all life.
Elijah prophesied a great famine following a drought. Then Elijah trusted in God completely for his sustenance — food was brought to him by ravens, a widow (who believed in the promises of God) fed him her last meal. When speaking to the widow, Elijah promises: “The jar of meal shall not be spent, and the cruse of oil shall not fail….” These promises, fulfilled in Jesus, are still true for us today. God’s providence, the sustenance he provides us, are available to us through the sacraments, made possible through Jesus’ life and sacrifice.
It can be hard to trust in the Lord, even though you know of his goodness. This Advent, take Elijah and Jesus’ example to heart — allow yourself to trust in him. When you allow him, God will provide!
