• Jesse Tree Day 16 || The waters of baptism wash the souls of the faithful, the graces of God are ever flowing.

Elijah has a vision of a river flowing from the Temple, whose waters provide life, as we are told: “…wherever the river goes every living creature which swarms will live…” The waters from the Temple that provide life to “every living creature” are symbolic of the waters of baptism. Jesus came to establish this “river” of grace, the waters that wash away Original Sin from our souls and bring us new life in him. These waters are everlasting, reminding us that God’s mercy is constantly overflowing, constantly available to us — all we need to do is ask.

Advent is a beautiful time to reflect on the graces received in baptism, the graces we still need as we go through life. Maybe ask your parish for some holy water to keep at home, both as a reminder of God’s grace and to ask for it daily, but also as a means of blessing yourself, your family, and your home so as to remain open to his grace!
