It is with deep sorrow that I inform you of the passing of our beloved Father D. Kent Durig, who entered into eternal rest earlier today, December 19, 2025.Father Durig has faithfully served the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston since his ordination in 1993. His years of priestly ministry touched countless lives, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and served with him.
Before his retirement in 2021, Father Durig ministered in several parishes throughout the diocese, most recently as Pastor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Stonewood. His dedication to his parishioners and his gentle pastoral presence remain a lasting witness to his love for the Lord and His people.
Please keep Father Durig in your prayers and commend his soul to the mercy of God. May the Lord grant him eternal rest and peace. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
The funeral arrangements are as follows:
Monday, December 29: Reception of the Body at the Cathedral of St. Joseph (4:00pm) with visitation to follow until the Vigil Service at 6:30pm. Very Reverend Donald X. Higgs, V.E., V.F. will be the presider and homilist for the Vigil.Tuesday, December 30: Visitation at the Cathedral of St. Joseph from 9:00am until 11:45am. The Funeral Mass will then be celebrated at 12:05pm with Bishop Mark E. Brennan as the presider and homilist and with diocesan priests as concelebrants. A luncheon to be held in the Chancery will follow the Funeral Mass. The burial arrangements will be announced at a later time.
In this time of mourning, let us unite in prayer for Father Kent’s family, friends, and all those who grieve his loss.
