• Laetare comes from the Latin imperative “Rejoice!” Today, the Church is calling us to rejoice — we are halfway through our Lenten journey.

As Archbishop José H. Gomez has said: “We’ve turned the corner and now we can see our destination getting closer in the distance. Ahead of us we can see Good Friday and the cross of Jesus Christ; and just beyond that, Easter morning and the light streaming from the empty tomb.”

In the Passion, we know Jesus will suffer and die, but we also know that in the cross we will find all the tender mercies of God. That is why we rejoice today — through the Cross of Christ, we are saved!

As we continue to #PracticethePresence this #Lent, let us take time today to reflect on the crosses in our own lives — how can we rejoice in them? Are we allowing them to be a source of salvation and grace in our lives?
