The Catholic Church of Puerto Rico announced that, as part of its efforts for the recovery of Puerto Rico, it is beginning the construction phase of the Island Recovery project, which finances the renovation of ecclesiastical facilities that were damaged by natural disasters in Puerto Rico.
Cardinal Cupich, special envoy of Pope Francis and chancellor of Catholic Extension Society, attended the launching event of the recovery project with Monsignor Roberto González Nieves of the Archdiocese of San Juan and Catholic bishops from across the island.
Catholic Extension Society is a national organization that for the last 120 years has financially supported the Catholic Church in Puerto Rico and Cardinal Cupich is also responsible for overseeing Puerto Rico’s recovery after hurricanes Irma and María.
