Since 1885, the powerful and majestic sounds of the pipe organ in the Diocese’s Cathedral have inspired and uplifted all who come to worship and pray. However, this historic instrument now requires routine maintenance and essential repairs to its console mechanics.
Over the years, generous donors have shown their deep respect for this treasured piece of history, and we are grateful for their support in preserving its beauty for future generations.
On March 30, a benefit concert was held to raise funds for the organ’s restoration. The concert that was attended by Bishop Joseph Williams, and others, featured performances by renowned musicians, including Peter Richard Conte, Grand Court Organist for the Wanamaker Organ in Philadelphia, and Andrew Ennis, the Cathedral’s Organist and Musical Director. Their incredible performance reminds us of how vital this “hymn machine” is, enhancing the liturgy and enriching the experience of weekend Masses and special Diocesan and parish events.
