• All in the Diocese of Madison are invited to attend the annual Chrism Mass on Holy Thursday (April 17) at 10:00 am at St. Maria Goretti Church!

The Chrism Mass is an important liturgy in a diocese and is traditionally celebrated on Holy Thursday to emphasize the origins of the priesthood, which began on the night of the Last Supper. At the Chrism Mass, the diocese’s priests renew their priestly promises, and the bishop blesses the Oil of Catechumens (used for anointing both adults and infants before they are baptized) and the Oil of the Sick (used during the Anointing of the Sick). He also consecrates the Sacred Chrism (olive oil mixed with fragrant balsam, used during Baptism, Confirmation, and the Ordination of priests). All of these oils are then distributed to each parish for them to use for their sacraments for the next year.

We hope to see you there!
