This morning, Friday, April 11, in a letter addressed to Cardinal Claudio Gugerotti, prefect of the Dicastery for the Eastern Churches, His Holiness Catholicos Aram I, expressed his deep pain and anger with reference to the conference “Christianism in Azerbaijan” held at the Pontifical Gregorian University. His Holiness said that the one-sided organization of the abovementioned conference in relation to the subjects and lecturers, particularly about the subjects related to the Armenian Church, and the absence of Armenian lecturers is an obvious offense to historical truth.His Holiness remainded Cardinal Gugerotti, who is a well-known Armenian Studies scholar, that there was a close relationship between the Armenian and Albanian churches from the first centuries of Christianity. In the same letter, the Catholicos also recalled the forced deportation of the Armenian population of Artsakh organized by the authorities of Azerbaijan as a result of their genocidal policies. At the same time, His Holiness highlighted the positive approach of the Vatican authorities toward the issues related to the Armenians of Artsakh and said that we are sure that the Vatican authorities do not share the one-sided and erroneous approaches of that conference.
