Palm Sunday on April 13 marks the beginning of Holy Week and it will end at the end of the day on Easter Sunday! If you are able, please attempt to attend one or more of these holy liturgies in addition to your Sunday obligation. Holy Week is a time where we as Catholics are able to unite ourselves to Christ through His suffering and ultimately the giving of His life for us on the cross in His passion. After Palm Sunday, the Chrism Mass will take place on April 15 at the Cathedral-Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, where all are invited to attend.
On Holy Thursday, we celebrate the Mass of the Lord’s Supper. Prior to sharing the Passover meal, Jesus washed the feet of His disciples, calling them to serve others and reminding them that there is no one above the call of service, not even the Son of God. At this same meal, Christ establishes the Sacrament of the Eucharist, transforming the bread and wine into His own Body and Blood.
Good Friday is an opportunity for us to venerate the cross as we commemorate the crucifixion, death, and burial of Jesus Christ. This holy day is also a day of fasting and abstinence.
On the Easter Vigil, the Paschal Candle is lit outside and a procession follows it into the church, illustrating how we should follow the light of Christ. At this Mass, those who have been going through OCIA are brought officially into the Church through the Sacraments of Initiation!
The Mass on Easter Sunday is the beginning of the Easter season which will last for the next 50 days!
