In the presence of God and his Church, are you resolved, as a sign of your interior dedication to Christ, to remain celibate for the sake of the kingdom and in lifelong service to God and mankind?” (From the Rite of the Ordination of Deacons)
Today I had the privilege of ordaining five faithful men to the transitional diaconate for the Archdiocese of Boston. God willing, these men will be ordained priests in the coming year. At today’s Mass, they made the above promise of celibate chastity among others. This chastity is a gift to God and to the Church in imitation of the Lord’s own self-gift. Join me in praying that the Lord will strengthen these men in that gift now and always
