Local Catholics fondly recall the ‘people’s pope’
PALM BEACH GARDENS | Personal contact with a pope is a rare occurrence. If someone is able to get close enough to shake the pope’s hand or exchange a few words with him, it’s usually because they are very lucky — at the right place at the right time — or they are a member of some type of group with special access to the Holy Father.
Percy and Aban Kavasmaneck, parishioners of the Cathedral of St. Ignatius Loyola, were in Rome a year ago to attend a conference at the Pontifical North American College. Through their involvement with the Papal Foundation, which raises money to fund the pope’s projects, they were invited to a private audience with Pope Francis.
