• Bishop Kagan has issued the following statement on the election of the new pope:
“With the election of our new Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV, the entire Holy Roman Catholic Church and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Bismarck offer praise and thanksgiving to Almighty God for this tremendous gift to the Church and to the world. Our Holy Father is an American born in Chicago who has served the Church faithfully as a devoted religious and most recently as the Prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops. Personally, I am so grateful to God for His continued care for the Church. I am most grateful to Our Blessed Mother Mary for her maternal love and care for the Church and for Pope Leo XIV. I ask all of our Catholic faithful of the Bismarck Diocese to join me in offering our prayers for our new Holy Father and may all of us faithfully follow his example and listen to him, the Vicar of Christ, in all matters. I humbly submit myself to him in fraternal obedience and offer to him my love and respect.”
