On this Fourth Sunday of Easter, Jesus tells us: “My sheep hear my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish. No one can take them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all,
and no one can take them out of the Father’s hand. The Father and I are one” (John 10: 27-30).Today’s Gospel reading fills our hearts with hope. Jesus is the good shepherd who is not scandalized by our sins; he already paid the price for them. In prayer, we listen for his voice as he beckons us forward to healing and to eternal life.
Reflection: Often when we see sin, our own, or the sins of others, all we see is the sin. Our own inability to overcome sins can tempt us toward despair. God is all knowing, however, so when he looks at our sins, he sees the pain beneath them – those areas of our lives where love was disrupted or withheld. Wounds of which we may not even be consciously aware. God longs for us to turn away from sin, but not without healing our wounds. At times, God withholds the grace people need to overcome sin because our sins are our biggest reminder that something within us needs healed. What inside you is asking to be healed?
