Today, May 15, is the memorial of St. Isidore the Farmer! Born in Madrid, Spain in the late 11th century to poor farmers, Isidore worked as a hired hand on a farm belonging to a wealthy landowner. He was known to have shared what little he had, including his food, with the poor, and he was known to have worked miracles during his life. According to one story, on a snowy day, he took pity on a flock of pigeons that was searching for food on the icy ground by emptying out half of his sack of wheat for them. His fellow workers mocked him for wasting precious food on the birds, but when Isidore reached the mill, his bag of grain was completely full, and it produced double the amount of flour that was expected. Isidore is the patron saint of farmers and agriculture.
Today is a pastorate feast day; we send prayers and a shout-out to our St. Isidore the Farmer Pastorate! St. Isidore the Farmer, pray for us!
