For the 5th Sunday of Easter, Bishop Juan Miguel Betancourt, SEMV, visited the Parish of Mary, Mother of the Church in Waterbury to offer the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and bless a new statue that was gifted to the parish in memory of one of its beloved pastors, Father John Lavorgna, who passed away suddenly in 2023 at the age of 48. Monsignor Thomas Ginty and Father John Mariano concelebrated, and Deacon Chuck Colella assisted. Father Lavorgna’s parents and other family members were also in attendance.
“All the way to God’s embrace” was a favorite expression of Father Lavorgna’s. In a letter to parishioners in 2020, he concluded with: “Remember, right now we cannot all be together, but we are never alone. All the way to God’s embrace.”
