• 🎉The Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux is celebrating 48 years! Since 1977, each of our five Bishops left a lasting impact on our journey of faith.

Bishop Warren Boudreaux was the founding Bishop of the Houma-Thibodaux Diocese. He laid a strong and visionary foundation for the diocese, marked by the establishment of new parishes, ministries, and diocesan initiatives for spiritual renewal, cultural inclusion, and ethical reform.

Bishop Michael Jarrell guided the diocese with steady pastoral care, fostering unity through parish realignments, lay involvement, and spiritual renewal. He led the diocese into its 25th anniversary under the theme “One Faith, Many Cultures,” celebrating the richness and diversity of our faith community.

Bishop Sam Jacobs led the diocese through a time of tremendous challenge and growth, providing compassionate leadership during Hurricanes Katrina and Rita while strengthening the Church’s outreach and support. His passion for the formation of our young people led to a remarkable rise in youth evangelization and seminarians within our diocese.

Bishop Shelton J. Fabre served the diocese with compassion and clarity, embracing his episcopal motto, “Comfort My People,” as a guiding mission in his pastoral leadership. His time as bishop was marked by deep care for his flock and a forward-looking vision that inspired our strategic planning process to make disciples of all. He now serves as the Archbishop of Louisville.

The fifth Bishop of our diocese, Bishop Mario E. Dorsonville, was known for his deep compassion, especially for underserved communities. In his brief yet impactful tenure, he demonstrated a profound desire for the spiritual well-being of his people. He went to be with the Lord in January of 2024, but his pastoral presence left a lasting and grace-filled legacy.

May we pray that the Lord, in His perfect timing, will send us a new Shepherd after his own heart to lead our diocese with wisdom, compassion and faithfulness.
