– Pope St. John Paul IIToday, we celebrate the birthday of the Church, when the Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles, setting their hearts on fire to live out the Church’s mission in the world.
We also mark the end of the Pentecost Novena — nine days of prayer asking for docility to the Holy Spirit, preparing our hearts for a deeper encounter with Jesus. As the novena concludes and Pentecost begins, may we be ready to receive the gifts the Spirit desires to give us.
As we celebrate, let us all call on the Holy Spirit for faith, hope, and love, that we may become more Christlike and have the courage to proclaim Jesus to the world.
