Family, friends and the community gathered at Immaculate Conception-St. Peter the Apostle in Groves Saturday evening to say happy retirement to Father J.C. Coon, pastor. Bishop Toups celebrated the Mass and expressed his thanks for the many years Father Coon has served in ministry in Southeast Texas. Father Tom Phelan also was in attendance. Father Coon will retire June 30. July 1 Father Valentine Mayaka, FMH, will become administrator.
