Today, June 24, we celebrate the Nativity of St. John the Baptist. This is a joyful day in our diocese. Along with St. Patrick, St John the Baptist is a secondary patron of the Diocese of Portland. Today’s solemnity celebrates his birth. This demonstrates the significant role St. John the Baptist plays in the life of the church. The only other nativities in the liturgical calendar are the Nativity of Our Lord and the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
