• Today, clergy, religious women and men, and diocesan staff gathered to honor Father Robert Hughes, Moderator of the Curia, who has served as vicar general for the Diocese for more than 11 years. Father Hughes begins his new role July 1 as pastor of the Parish of Saint Monica in Atlantic City.

“We thank Father Hughes for his Christ-centered ministry,” Bishop Joseph Williams said during Mass at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, which followed a celebratory reception at Cathedral Hall next door. “May our Blessed Mother continue to bless him in his ministry in Atlantic City.”

During the reception, Father Hughes told those gathered, “You are the ones on the front lines; you are the ones who are the faces of the Church to our parishes. It’s been an absolute pleasure over these years to work with you.”

To the newest vicar general, Father Jon Thomas, Father Hughes said, “I give you good wishes. You’re in good hands here.”

From all of us in the Diocese: May God continue to bless and guide you, Father Hughes, in this next chapter of your priestly service!
