Today, we celebrate the Feast of The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. This feast is observed on the second Friday following Pentecost. On this day, we honor the heart of Jesus and His abounding love for humanity. Devotion to the Sacred Heart officially began in 1856 but has earlier roots. In the 1600s, Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque received visions from God that included the image of the Sacred Heart along with the posture of Jesus’ heart toward a passionless and unappreciative humanity: relentless and divine love.
