• They loved with a love that was more than love…. Saints Louis and Zélie Martin the parents of Saint Thérèse of Lisieux, are remembered by the Church today their feast day.
The couple was declared saints by Pope Francis in 2015. They are the first married couple canonized together.
The Martins had nine children, four (two sons and two daughters) died in infancy or early childhood. The other five – all girls – became nuns.
Their marriage was characterized by deep faith and mutual support, and they raised their children in a devout Christian home.
“The good Lord gave me a father and a mother more worthy of heaven than of earth,” St. Therese said.
