Today is the Feast of St. James, apostle and martyr, fisherman turned fisher of men, son of Zebedee and Mary Salome, brother of John.
Like Saint James, we bear many titles – who we are, what we do, who we are related to – all of the ways we are recognized and identify ourselves are part of who we are. Saint James was the first apostle to be martyred for spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ. His witness life and his death for sharing the faith are why he is remembered.
How are you known? Is it, like St. James, for your zeal for the faith? Are you witnessing the Catholic faith in your daily life? Let us take this day, the memorial of an apostle who knew Jesus personally and traveled and ministered with him during his ministry on earth, and strive to live in a way that all who know us will know we are Catholic Christians!
