Today is the Memorial of Saints Joachim and Anne, Mary’s parents and the grandparents of Jesus.
While there is no mention of them in Scripture, tradition holds that Joachim and Anne were promised a child, Mary, by an angel after being barren for all their lives.
We honor their lives as the grandparents of Jesus, holy and admirable in their devotion to God. They are the patrons of parents and grandparents.
