Know what the Church celebrates today

A week calendar on the app's home screen shows the liturgical season, the rank of each celebration and the saint remembered that day.

Solemnities, feasts, memorials, optional memorials and weekdays. When a day has more than one celebration, each one is listed with its rank.

  • The app takes on the day's colour

The home screen background follows the liturgical colour of the day, green, white, red, violet or rose, like the vestments at Mass.

  • From the calendar to the readings

Tap View Reading on any day to open its Mass readings. The calendar card also carries the Pope's prayer intention for the month.

What is the liturgical calendar?

The Catholic Church lives by a liturgical year. It begins with Advent, goes through Christmas, Lent, Holy Week and Easter, and returns to Ordinary Time. Every day has its own celebration: a solemnity, a feast, the memorial of a saint, or simply a weekday. The liturgical calendar tells you what the Church is celebrating today, so your own prayer can keep pace with the whole Church.

The week calendar on the home screen

Scroll down on the app’s home screen and you reach the week calendar. Today is clearly marked, and each day has a small dot in its liturgical colour. Tap a day and the card shows:

  • The liturgical season, such as Ordinary Time or Advent.
  • The day’s celebrations with their rank, for example a memorial of Our Lady and the weekday of the week.
  • The references of the day’s readings.
  • The Pope’s prayer intention for the month.

The liturgical colours on your screen

The app changes its home screen background to the liturgical colour of the day: green in Ordinary Time, violet in Advent and Lent, white on feasts of the Lord and of Our Lady, red for the Holy Spirit and the martyrs, rose on Gaudete and Laetare Sundays. Open the app and you know what kind of day it is.

From the calendar to the readings

Every day in the calendar leads straight to its daily Mass readings with the View Reading button. Looking for Mass on a feast day? The Mass times page shows how to find the nearest church.
